Castaway Guestbook - 2002
Well, it is getting time to book another trip to Castaway. We have our two daughters home for the holidays and started the family discussion regarding vacations. Since our youngest is now engaged we know that this will be the last trip for just the immediate family. So given a choice, the three ladies again voted unanimously to go back to Castaway. I never vote since it is three ladies to one man. This will make our daughters 4th trip and our 6th or 7th trip. We keep flying 9 and 1/2 hours from LA because of the Castaway family. They are the best and it comes from their heart. If any family has any questions about Castaway, just consider that our family could go to other ideal islands closer to the states but none provide us with the vacation atmosphere that Castaway does. The Pitman family is looking at returning in May, 2003.

We have just returned from the best holiday we have ever had on Castaway. The food, staff and facilties are 1st class. For anyone who is thinking of going or about to... you won't be sorry! If you are wondering whether the north or south beach bures are best, well they both have their good apects (none bad). We however definately preferred the south beach, as it gets more of the lovely sea breeze. Bure 33 was perfect for our family of four as it was close to the pool yet extremly quite and private. The meal plan is also the way to go for carefree great value dining! A special and very BIG vinaka vaka levu to our new lovely friend Una. Marc & Andrew miss you! We will send you an e-mail very soon with some photos... Thanks Una & Castaway for the PERFECT holiday!

Hi anyone out there in castaway fan land. We are booked to go in jan, a family of 5 intotal. We have been given lots of useful info but can anyone help with this question? I know there is no surf but do you need to bring pool toys ie boogie boards or buckets and spades ? Is there any available for hire? Any other hints would be appreciated. THANX!!

I recently went on the FVB mega famil in November and visited Castaway Island. Can I just say that you make the absolute BEST pizzas I have ever had! And also the ceaser salad was sensational. Well done!!p.s. fantastic island....

Bula again to our extended family at Castaway Island! Well, we all made it home in one piece - albeit a very slow trip back to Denarau on the Tiger IV due to some mechanical problem. Debbi had never been aboard the boat and kept asking me "Doesn't this thing go any faster?". She is far too used to helicopters I think! But anyway... Gary, many, many thanks once again for the extra attention you offered Debbi and I on this particular visit - we seem to take pleasure in throwing some curly requests at you and your staff during our visits and your ability to meet our needs never ceases to surprise me. Please give our heartfelt thanks to all of the Castaway staff as it's very much their friendliness and eagerness to please which leaves you with the feeling of never wanting to leave. I hope you managed to get them all back to work yesterday though, they all stood at the boatshed waving for so long that I thought their arms were in danger of dropping off!!! Meme kept our room spotless, Lily worked hard to keep our two 15yo charges in check when they were in the pool, Salai takes muscular tension away wonderfully, Filipe was always there with his Fijian charm and wit at meal-times, Mosese's smile started off every morning just the way it should be, Lendua - as always - working behind the scenes to make sure no-one else got our HUGE bar bill, and to Emily and Epi for forcing us to drink that much! Va produced the near impossible - TWO birthday cakes and one anniversary cake within the period of one week, and the Palusami was just the best. You really ought to put it on as a menu item and give people a "real taste" of Fiji. (Debbi wants me to make her a "staff-meal" this evening - sheesh!!!). Ezza, Ramsey and Asiri - we'd be happy to send the boys back and leave them in your care... UNTIL THEY BOTH TURN 25!!! Seru makes the BEST pizzas by sunset ANYWHERE in the world. And Geoff Shaw, if you ever get my wife that drunk again, I'll kiss you! I had to nurse her through a demon hangover until dinner time the next day. And to all the Jo's (various spellings included) who kept our glasses full at all times of the day - a big Vinaka vaka levu!!! And for anyone else reading this who hasn't yet sampled what these people have to offer - GET OVER THERE SOON!!! Cheers, Graham and Debbi.

Bula Gary Snodgrass, Bula Castaway, physically we left you on the 17th November 2002, today 3 weeks later we are still with you in spirit relaxing in beach bure#35 & at peace with the world. For family members not mentioned here I apologise, you are not forgotten, special vinakas to Filipe, Seru & Manu in the dining room, how could you not enjoy fine dining with you guys around, to Kiki who kept our bure immaculate for the 9 nights we were there, you are a delight & to Epi for keeping plenty of cold Fiji bitter on hand catering to my Midday & Sundown visits to the Sundowner, I can even forgive you for scaring hell out of me telling me that there was no cold beer left as I passed you on the way to the bar & the laughter from you when you saw the look on my face (good one Epi) & to Jonah who took us over to his village on Malolo & around the Manumucas, a great day mate. If we could put in our order now we would book beach bure#37 for 7-10 nights in November 2003 but we need to sort a few things out before we once again say Bula to our Castaway family, till we see you again, Loloma. Ian & Jill Bullivant, Woongarrah, Australia

Bula to Gary Snograss and the fine people of Castaway. As I remember it Gary, when we we there in February 2000, you said we were the only ones from Kentucky to ever visit Casaway. Well we decided to do it again, since we enjoyed it so much the last time, even though there was a typhoon off the coast for two days. Anxious to see you guys but sorry we will miss the managers party on Wednesday. Vinaka John

Family of five with 3 kids age 6-12 thinking of visiting Castaway in June/July 2003. What is the Family Bure like? Would it be too close to public areas (not much privacy)? One standard bure would probably not work for five. How about getting two bures? Are they close to each other? Is there a better side of the resort breeze-wise? Is two weeks too long? Has anyone done the "island hopping" trips? What are they like and are they reasonably priced? Do they do snorkeling trips off island and are they included? How "inclusive" is the "all-inclusive"? What's the weather like in June/July? Is later in the summer better? Are biting insects a problem? So many things to consider!!!

We are going for a week in August from the 7th for my Grandads birthday his name is Peter Nottingham. The entire family is going (23 poeple). He has gone in past years and loved it. Everyone is extremly excited and cannot wait. is anyone else my age going (15)

We are planning our trip in AUG-SEP & would like to do some island coastal fishing off the beach & perhaps off a small boat. Our preference is spinning / lure fishing & are wondering if anyone has had any experiences to offer. What sort of fish can we catch & what sort of lures work in the waters around Castaway? Thanks Steve & Angie

We spent 9 days at Castaway in 2000, October 18-27. We were at the end of the line in Bure 62, and loved every minute. Beautiful weather, beautiful people, and great food. And FUN! Great snorkeling, beach volleyball, keepaway in the pool, and a sundown in the Sundowner with a coffee and Bailey's. And we got back to Canada to find out we were pregnant. Castaway is REALLY RELAXING!!

Hello! My family and I (and friends) will be visiting Castaway early April 2003. We'd love to hear from any other families with young teens (12 and 16)who have been there. We're also wondering what the snorkeling is like right off of the beach, which bures (specific numbers?) are best for ocean access and seclusion, and what the weather and mosquitoes are like during that time of year. Any comments and experiences that anyone can share with us will be truly appreciated. April 2003 can't come soon enough!

Hello! My family and I (and friends) will be vacationing at Castaway early April 2003 and we were wondering how good the snorkeling is right off of the beach, what the weather and mosquitos are like at that time of the year, and which bures are the best for ocean access and seclusion (specific numbers would be great!). If anyone would be so kind as to answer those questions, along with any other helpful tips--we'd really appreciate it. April 2003 can't come soon enough!!!

What I'd like to know is... does anyone have any reccomendations for us to get the absolute most out of our time? What do we need to bring and what is a cannot miss experience? BULA to all and what else can we say except VINAKA to all on Castaway Island as we had a great time. Our daughter Jasmine (6 months) was treated like a Celebrity and I'm sure that when she gets older she'll look back on all the photos taken with fondness and remember all those smiling faces. To Nina you will always hold a special place with Jasmine as you took great care of her throughout our holiday. It was supposed to be a honeymoon and you allowed for it to turn out to be a great one. We now call all of you our great friends and have decided that Castaway will be our Yearly holiday destination. We look forward to seeing Nina, Philipe, Manu, Paul, Mere, Vinisi, Mere, Vuke, Gary, Asiri and everyone that made our holiday that much special. You never know, we may also have a brother or sister for Jasmine as well. John, Phuong & Jasmine Georgas

Our travel agent has recommended Castaway's as a lively family friendly resort so we are coming over the second week in August. Sally and I have three children aged 19(b), 17(g) and 15(g). Has anyone got children of a similar age coming?

My husband and I were married 8 years ago on Castaway. In our tradition of celebrating our anniversary, we open up a bottle of champagne, open our photo album and relive ALL of our wonderful experiences on Castaway. Every time I weep. Not only for the love we share but for the wonderful people on the island who touched our lives and who I have not and will never forget. We plan on returning in the next few years. We were worried that it would change but from reading others comments, I can see that it hasn't. This makes us so happy! If there is anyway we could get a message to Semesa Ramasi (*he was our Best Man), We would love to hear from him. Much love!

Our son would be keen to play with some boys for a change! Look forward to hearing from anyone! Thanks in advance!

Ni sa bula, Back home now to our own paradise....but it is cold!!! Vinaka vakalevu to you all for our wonderful holiday. We enjoyed your hospitality and your warmth and friendliness. Hi! Gerhard Böhm and I were on Castaway in April of this year and we both loved it. The staff are more than friendly and helpful and the island is just great. Thanks to Trudy at the dive shop for her well-guided tour for snorkeling and to Ana and Paul for getting a watch sent down from the Outrigger. I was sad before I even left the place as we were wished farewell by the 'Farewell Committee' on the beach. The Castaway Family is the best publicity for the resort. Keep up the good work! My family and I are scheduled to visit in June. I've been to Fiji before to surf on Tavarua. Now that I have a family that is less than optimal. Is there surf on Castaway or close by? Left or right hand breaks? Accessible by land or boat? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Bula, from Brisbane,Australia. We`re travelling to Castaway in the first week of September, we can hardly wait. We`ve read all the e-mails and can`t believe the incredible positive comments of past holidays. We have searched the net for as much info as we could, especially photos of the resort. Our only query or debate,is which number beach bure will complete the perfect setting for our holiday. We are looking for great sunsets,a quiet swimming beach and has that feel of seclusion. Our choices vary between 53-55-15-13-9. We would love to hear from anybody with advice on the perfect choice. Can`t wait to get there.

I'm staying on Castaway in June. I need to know whether the Ocean view bures are better in North beach or South beach. Someone told me there's a better breeze on one side, I just don't remember which ! Thanks for any help/suggestions. Steve

We are getting married at Castaway on 2nd August 2002 and would love to hear from anyone who can give us any advice/tips. We are hoping to wear the traditional wedding attire but I don't know whether to bring a dress as well. We also have a 9 year old and wonder what happens to her during the champagne cruise etc. Any comments/ hints would be greatly appreciated.

BULA! We were married at Castaway Island in June of 2001. What a wonderful experience and a dream come true!!! It is paradise. We plan to return to Castaway in the near future!

Our memories of past trips and all the fun we have had there is the reason why we continue to pick Castaway as our beach vacation. Bula! My wife and I were married almost a year ago and we had such a wonderful experience. We can't wait to spend futures anniversaries on your wonderful island. Thanks for all the memories and the many more to come.

Hi! I have stumbled upon the Fiji Travel website and have decided that ONE of the islands will be our next holiday destination. Trouble is trying to choose one! My husband and I have a little boy who will be about 2 on our next break, which island do you think will cater best for us. We like to laze around pretty much all day, love a variety of food, but would still like the option to go on day trips. What do you think?

My fiance and I are trying to decide on either Castaway or a combo of Navivi/Sonaisali for our July honeymoon. Both look great, and we like the idea of getting to see two islands too. Does Castaway charter to other islands, and is that a good idea? Are there a lot of kids at Castaway? Would the combo be a better choice? Any info would be much appreciated!!! We are very excited!!! Thank you.

Bula! My boyfriend and I are thinking of a holiday at Castaway for a week in early August. Does anyone have any advice on what the weather is like then? Also, is it best to get a meal plan or DIY?? Any advice appreciated, I love hearing/swapping stories!! Sim & Dunc

Really looking forward to our 5th trip back to our little paradise. Only a week to go. Keep the sunshining for us, can't wait to catch up with all our Fijian friends. See you on the 24th

this summer will be our third time and we cannot wait. we have been in many places, but never found people as special as at castaway, ocean as warm and clear, incredible snorkeling and delicious food--no shoes, no phone, no TV, no watch...fiji time--paradise for everyone--kids, adults and even teenagers Alisi, Michela misses you--see you in august! the fossati

We are planning a trip to Fiji with our two boys, aged 4 and 6, this summer. The Castaway looks like the perfect resort, though Plantation Island appears similar. I'd appreciate any input re these 2 resorts, and how they differ, as far as children's programs and general activities are concerned. We understand the resorts are very full late June/early July during Australian school holidays, and are a bit concerned that there won't be enough playmates around in August! Any info at all re these 2 beautiful resorts would be much appreciated. Thank You

For all of those people who emailed me about my previous comments thank you. My decision was made easier....Castaway it is!!

We plan to visit Fiji in August for about 3wks. Our children will be 5yrs and almost 2yrs. We are considering Castaway but aren't sure if we should split up the time between 2 resorts. Any input regarding travel to Fiji with children and Castaway resort would be great!

My boyfriend and I are going to Fiji in May. I have been to Plantation Island and the Fijian and loved them both. Someone suggested Castaway was even better. Anyone who could help make the decision easier email me. Also Ocean or beach bure???

We have just left after 4 nights in paradise. The island is fantastic, the people are lovely and the holiday was out of this world-THANK YOU.(we are now considering our wedding on castaway!!!)

I cannot thank our extended Family enough (The Castaway crew)for a fantastic holiday. We felt so at home, yet so far away and this is all because of the most wonderful and most friendly people that run the Island. Our 14 month ol son was adopted by Aseri, who we owe our holiday to and all the wonderful people that work there, such as Lily, Solo, etc. That was our 2nd trip to Castaway Island and once again it won't be our last. My husband and I will be at Castaway Feb. 11-16. Would be interested in hearing from anybody else that may be there the same time. Also, how costly are activities such as deep-sea fishing, dolphin cruising, etc? How is a typical day at Castaway spent? If you hadn't guessed, this will be our first time visiting Fiji. From all the postings in this guestbook, it appears we have chosen the right place to stay!

Bula to you all. We have just left Castaway (2 days) and have arrived back home to Sydney. I did not know what to expect from Castaway and had planned not to know on purpose so that I would be free from prior knowledge. The place is great. We have a fantastic stay. My wife and I have 3 young children, Arthur 8, Elly 6 and Leon 2. Leon is in love with Lily in particular and cannot stop talking about her. Likewise Arthur and Elly were inspired by the Kids Club Staff. Special thanks to Mary for the initial introduction upon our arrival. We met great people and had a perfect time. Sad to leave and look forward to going back. Anyone reading, no need to try other Island resorts - this is the one. Bula and Vinaka!
